Back to the garden

At a beautiful villa, a height difference of almost three meters created an unintended mental barrier between the terrace and the lower garden. Our job was to cover this gap and activate the garden as an integral part of the living experience.

The solution is a strategically placed pool house, constructed mostly from wood. The design is elegant and clear: a sculptural, laminated roof rests on two enclosed volumes. The characteristic wooden beam that frames the roof gives the building its unique appearance. Above, a roof filled with flowers and plants gives nature space back and provides a habitat for bees, butterflies, and other insects. An intimate living space is created between the volumes, screened by two spacious sliding doors.

When these are fully opened, the boundary between inside and out blurs. This effect is enhanced by the visual continuity of the wooden roof structure from outside to inside. The pavilion thus transforms into a covered terrace and becomes fully integrated into the garden, allowing residents to finally fully experience the outdoor space.
