Set amidst the stunning landscape of the Onner-Es, the desire arose to create a campsite that deliberately breaks with the trend towards increasing scale and mass tourism. The ambition was to create a small-scale, authentic and family-friendly place, where the experience of tranquillity and nature takes centre stage. This called for architecture that serves rather than dominates; a design that blends modestly into the landscape.
The new, bio-based sanitary block is the physical embodiment of this vision and serves as a tranquil, central focal point on the site. The building has been designed as a link connecting the restaurant and the swimming pool to the surrounding natural environment. All functions have been efficiently brought together under a single, clear, flat roof. This roof structure was prefabricated by the owners themselves, which is in keeping with the project’s personal character. The choice of a flat roof was also an aesthetic one: it completely conceals the solar panels from view, ensuring that the sustainable technology does not disrupt the natural landscape.
