A man-made landscape with high natural value
‘t Roegwold is part of an extensive low-lying peat area near the city of Groningen. It is a source of biodiversity and wonder.
This man-made landscape holds high natural value today and is essential for addressing the climate challenge. As long as the peat remains wet, it sequesters more CO2 than it emits. In recent years, ‘t Roegwold has rapidly developed into a nature-rich delta, a paradise for many bird species. Moreover, it is a nature reserve maintained through agricultural nature management.
The stable is built entirely with circular principles. Circular construction means building without unnecessarily depleting natural resources, polluting the environment, or harming ecosystems. It aims to be economically responsible and contribute to the well-being of humans and animals.
The Kijkstal is embedded in the landscape, blending harmoniously with its natural surroundings while also standing out in the open landscape. The building is strategically located along the main road between Meerstad and Slochteren. With its open design, it is an inviting opportunity to enter the stable and discover, explore, and experience ‘t Roegwold.
